Probability of Failure on Demand for Determination of Safety Integrity Level

Abstract(in English) In IEC 61508 it is required that Safety Integrity Levels (SILs) are given to safety related systems. The SIL is specified by Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) of the safety related system. This paper describes how to derive of generalized estimator for PFD with conditional probability. Since Mean Down Time (MDT) is applied to the generalized estimator for PFD, derivation of MDT is described also. Finally PFD of the 2oo3 system is calculated with the algorithm given in this paper.
