Piezoelectric Properties of Lithium Tantalate Family Solid Solution Ceramics

Abstract(in English) LiTaO_3 single crystal is widely used for surface acoustic wave devices, whereas, LiTaO_3 ceramic is hitherto not applied because of its difficulty in sintering and its high ferroelectric transition temperature, Tc. LiTaO_3 solid solution ceramics were investigated to lower Tc, and their dielectric, as well as piezoelectric properties were studied. X ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated that the solid solutions were successfully synthesized. Tc of Li_<0.85>Ca_<0.15>Ta_<0.85>Ti_<0.15>O_3, for example, was lowered down to 456℃, which is 230℃ lower than that of LiTaO_3. After poling treatment, Li_<0.85>Ca_<0.15>Ta_<0.85>Ti_<0.15>O_3 ceramic showed resonant response, indicating piezoelectric property.
