Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The cooling methods for communication equipments are trending toward forced-air cooling from natural convective cooling. The cooling fans for communication equipments are almost the type of compact DC (direct current) driven fan. The life time of these fans is generally 3~6 years. High reliable long life cooling fans are wanted for the easy and safe operation of communication equipments to avoid the trouble of fan failure. The main cause of fan failure is the degrading of the grease in the axle-box and cooling the axle-box is effective for keeping the grease. We have developded a new long life cooling fan which has a larger axle-box and a self-cooled structure. The self-cooled structure means that axle-box is self-cooled when the fan rotates. The accelerated enviromental test shows that the life of the new fan is more then five times as long as conventional DC fans.
