Abstract(in English) Fully packaged 2x2 and 4x4 multiple quantum well (MQW) optical switch modules integrated with spotsize converters (SSCs) can be developed, where the SSCs consist of lateral tapers, thin-film cores, and ridges. The sum of the spot-conversion loss and coupling loss of the SSC is only 2.3dB. The additional loss from fixing arrayed fibers can be suppressed to be only 0.3dB, because the SSC enlarges the alignment tolerances of the fiber in lateral and axial directions by three times. The dynamic response of the modules is also reported. A sufficiently fast switching time of less than 70ps indicates that the modules are promising for high-speed switching.
