Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) From view point for THz applications, it is necessary to know the limit of upper frequency harmonic mixing properties and intrinsic noise of YBCO grain boundary Josephson junctions (GBJJs) at THz regime. A far infrared (FIR) laser pumped by a CO_2 gas laser was used as THz signal source and a silicon hyperhemispherical lens was used to guide FIR beam to the GBJJs. Microwave which was used as LO source and provided by a synthesized oscillator, was fed via a rigid coaxial line. IF output was amplified by a cooled HEMT IF amplifier and then detected by a spectrum analyzer. No more attempt was made to optimize the system. As a result, THz response has been demonstrated for the GBJJs. Also THz harmonic mixing with harmonic number (N) of about 490 has been achieved. Using two excited THz signals from a FIR laser, we successfully demonstrated fundamental frequency mixing. The intrinsic noise at THz range can be explained by the excess shot noise of the GBJJs.
