Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A rule-based speech synthesis system for the Japanese language, which employs a MELP(Mixed Excitation Linear Prediction)vocoder as its speech synthesizer, was implemented. This paper describes some speech synthesis techniques developed for enhancing the naturalness of synthesized speech based on the analysis of the rendomness in actual speech signsls.Sincethe speech synthesizer developed in this study could effectively gain the naturalness of voiced consonants that tend to be degraded by the conventional LPC(Linear Predictive Coding)vocoder, it is indicated that the developed techniques can potentially contribute to realize a high quality rule-based speech synthesis system.
