Variable Digital Filter Design Based on the Outer Product Expansion of Variable Magnitude Specifications

Abstract(in English) The digital filters with adjustable frequency-domain characteristics are referred to as variable digital filters. Variable filters are useful in the applications where the filter characteristics are required to be changeable during the course of signal processing. Generally speaking,the variable frequency responses of variable digital filters are multi-dimensional(M-D)functions of a set of spectral parameters defining the desired frequency-domain characteristies.In this paper,we first sample the given variable magnitude design specifications and use them to construct an M-D specification array,then propose an outer product expansion method for expanding the M-D specification array as the sum of outer products of onedimensional(1-D)arrays(vectors).Based on this outer product expansion,we can simplify the difficult problem of designing variable filters as the easy one that needs constant 1-D filter designs and 1-D polynomial approximations.The technique can obtain variable filters having arbitrary desired variable magnitude characteristics with any expected design accuracy.
