Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) New-born babies have ability of fundamental motions inherited from their parents. They can stretch their legs and arms, grasp a thing by bending all fingers simultaneously (which is called in robotics "enveloping grasp" or "power grasp" ), and visually tracking a moving object. After several months from the birth, they begin to meove the index finger solely and maneuver unilateraly or subsequently bilateraly their arm and hand to reach an object and grasp it. Based on a mathematical model of dynamics of a multi-fingered hand with soft finger tips, this note aims at presenting a physical and mathematical background on how and what intelligence infants can acquire from continuous interactions with the real world by fingering, touching, reaching, grasping, and carrying out object-manipulation. In particular, this note is aiming at showing a theoretical foundation on the problem how in infants "sensory-motor coordination" emerges, that developmental psychology has hypothesized recently. It is concluded that the process of acquirement of intelligence by means of physical interactions with the real world neither mecessitate any algorithmic computations nor is subject to reinforcement learning.
