Exact Analysis of Header Error Control characteristics in ATM Network

Abstract(in English) This paper presents the exact analysis of the probabilities of loss and misinsertion of the cell,which is the transmission unit of ATM.The main cause of the loss and the misinsertion is the decoding error of ceLl headers due to channel errors.This paper provides the method to calculate the probabilities of the cell loss and misinsertion.Firstly weight distribution of the error correcting code for headers is obtained by applying MacWilliams′ i dentity to its dual code.Then,the probability of undetected error and probability of miscorrection are derived from the weight distribution.As the actual probabilities of the cell loss and misinsertion is governed by the behavior of header error control(HEC),we clarifies the relations between HEC and the probabilities of undetected error and miscorrection and derive the exact characteristic of HEC.
