The Evaluation of Two-dimensional Signal Constellation with Cutoff Rate.

Abstract(in English) Wozencraft-Jacobs derived the bound of average error probability on multi-amplitude signals over an AWGN channel based on random coding.A limit of information transmission rate per dimension is derived by cutoff rate R_0 of this bound.The cutoff rate R_0 is usually smaller than the maximum rate R_0^* because they only consider signal constellations expressed by a direct product of one-dimensional signal constellation.In this paper,we try to improve the cutoff rate by expanding signal space to two- dimensional Euclidean space.The average error probability can be improved by optimizing probabilities of signal assignment. Our result show that,with A-PSK signal,R_0 approaches R_0^* in all SNR range,in comparison with one-dimension multi-amplitude signals′ R_0 derived by Wozencraft-Jacobs.With PSK signal,R_0 is c onsistent with R_0^* in low SNR range,because the probability of assignment has already been optimized due to the fine structure of signal constellation.
