Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Regarding future IP backbone networks, various architectures have been proposed and should be discussed from various viewpoints. In this paper, we discuss an architecture proposed for DWDM networks from a viewpoint of resource usage efficiency with focusing on statistical characteristics of IP backbone traffic. In the architecture, wavelength paths are set-up and released dynamically according to variation of IP packet traffic transmitted in the paths without signaling process. It can be considered that the signaling-free mechanism can realize high-speed wavelength path switching following short-time-scale variation of the IP packet traffic. Therefore, based on the statistical characteristics of practical IP backbone traffic, we evaluate statistical multiplexing and operation frequency of the wavelength path switching.
