A Design Methodology for proactive Services with Active packets

Abstract(in English) Proactive services based on the concept of active packets can control the quality of a service based on network conditions and customer requirements. In our proposed design, a proactive service is built with service databases installed in individual active nodes and a service program in each active packet. The service database stores up-to-date information on network conditions and customer requirements. The service program describes how the information should be use and how to handle an active packets based on the information (i.e. special treatment to forward and discard active packets). By referring to the information stored in individual service databases, an active packet can decide in a node-by-node fashion what behavior it should take as being suitable for each active node. Thus, our design will be especially promising to build such special services which are required to be controlled in a packet-by-packet manner taking account with the level of importance of individual packets.
