Traffic Scheduling Algorithm for Unidirectional Ring Networks with Optical Compression TDM on WDM

Abstract(in English) Recently, high-speed optical ring networks with 1 to 100Gbps can be realized by using the optical pulse compression/expansion technologies. Also, by combining them with the optical multiple access (TDM/WDM), the broadband ring network can accommodate more connections between source-destination node pairs simultaneously. When constructing MAN with such an optical compression TDM/WDM ring, we need to consider the balance of the network resources, e.g., the number of wavelengths, the traffic pattern between every node pair, the packet I/O processing capability at each node, and the optical compression ratio. In this paper, according to such given resources stated above, we first analyze the throughput of the optical compression TDM/WDM ring network, and develop more effective resources assignments. We next propose and evaluate the traffic scheduling algorithm to assign each path to the optical slot. Finally, we analyze the packet delay time to investigate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm.
