Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) According to wide spread of the Internet, communication failures become serious problems. When such failures happen, the network operators need to detect their locations and reasons. The failure detection systems so far are mainly focusing on hardware failure such as link downs and router failures. In this paper, the authors propose a new methodology which can detects not only hardware failures but also software failures resulting from congestion, operator's human errors, protocols and so on. This methodology is based on the user network monitoring, SNMP based failure detection, routing protocol handling and communications retrial.
