| Abstract(in English) | The emergence of High Speed Networks has raised new issues in network monitoring. The emphasis is more on monitoring burstiness, latecy and jitter than in measuring the traffic itself. In this context we investigate the effectiveness of the traditional active and passive measurement techniques. Each has its own adantages and disadvantages. To ascertain the efectiveness of each technique we have studied the relationship between the quality and accuracy of the measurement and the corresponding cost in terms of load on the network and the switches/routers. The results are presented. |
