A Study on a Layered Unequal Error-Protection System for Multi-Media Infomation with Different Importance

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes and investigates an unequal error-protection (UEP) system for multi-media information in which every medium has different importance and every segment of each medium can be classified to have different importance. It's named a layered UEP system. In order to optimize it, semantic error rate is defined using the importance of media and segments individually. Performance of the layered UEP is evaluated and compared with an equal error protection system. Theoretical and numerical analysis show that the proposed system can efficiently protect highly important media and segments, and improve the semantic error rate. Moreover, we discuss such an optimal structure of multiple error-correcting coding and decoding in a sense of minimum semantic error rate.
