Group Communication System based on MAC-over-IP

Abstract(in English) We have researched a regional Personal-Computer(PC)communication network system to provide convenient PC communication services to regional community members cost-effectively. An STM based system has already been developed that consists of Low-end Card having ISDN and Ethernet interfaces, Multiplex-port Brouter and Group Management Server. A new system architecture which is applicable to shared STM-PDS and Cable MODEM systems is proposed. It is based on MAC-over-IP scheme where Ethernet packets from users' PC are capsulated into IP packets in the edge device and they are filtered using the PC MAC addresses. Reduction of filtering processing complexity by controlling ARP packets is also presented.
