Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes an economical IP address assignment scheme which is effective to construct a large-scale internetwork using a global networking service platform. The whole platform behaves as a single virtual router and this avoids IP address assignment for a backbone network. Furthermore, multiple subscribers are virtually integrated into a single IP subnetwork. This solution is effective to reduce the number of IP addresses to be assigned to the whole subscriber networks. In order to avoid mutual interference among user LANs in the MAC layer and to enable mutual communication in the IP layer, the platform terminates MAC-frame forwarding and performs proxy-ARP processing. The number of consumed IP addresses in the proposed scheme can be reduced to a quarter of that in the conventional scheme.
