A Testbed for Home Network based on IEEE1394

Abstract(in English) Recently, the investigation of the residential multimedia service is becoming active because of the drastic popularization of the digital technology. It will spread over the home area and the HAN(Home Area Network) will be realized in nearfuture. The capabilities of transmitting the real-time AV(Audio Visual) data and connecting PCs are the great demand for the home area network. IEEE1394 is a strong candidate technology for the HAN, because it can transmit both asynchronous and isochronous data. We have proposed the architecture of the HAN, which uses the IP(Internet Protocol) on the IEEE1394 based network, and built the testbed of it. In this paper, we will report about this implementation of "IP over 1394" and "Native 1394 socket" which is an API for the native 1394 applications such as AV/C Protocol.
