Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a network architecture for a global networking service platform to provide a virtual link exchange service. In this service, AAL5-based multi-protocol frames are transferred via a virtual connection established over the connectionless-based platform. A virtual connection is established by means of edge node operation. An edge node located at the interface of a core network and an access network translates access ATM-VCL information into core CUG-ID information when it performs encapsulation processing. A virtual link exchange service can be economically provided by means of the connectionless transmission technology. Since connection control is not necessary in a wide-area core network, scalability is also achieved. Virtual connections are used to control some value-added services as well as to provide leased-line services.
