| Abstract(in English) | At NTT, we have been proceeding with R&D into multimedia services for achieving a ″multimedia society″in the 21st century. Internet services are continuing to gain in popularity throughout the world as a service system that utilizes computers and networks. The aim of the voice browser system is to allow the visually impaired to freely use Internet services. This system achieves a client terminal environment that allows voice-based access of Internet servers around the world, and real-time output of oral audio translated to and from English and Japanese and media such as hi-fi music. To achieve this, we have system-integrated the functions of voice recognition, synthesizing and translation.and have distributed the processing engine functions for these functions over a network. As a result, we now propose a service system in which Internet information can be freely accessed by voice and reading aloud of such information can be controlled, and that can be used by the visually impaired, the elderly and those not used to using a keyboard. |
