Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A head-mounted display(HMD)can produce a "high presence"effect giving the wearer the feeling of actually being in the virtual space constructed by a computer. However, it becomes difficult to determine facial expressions since the HMD covers the eyes of the wearer. This report addresses this problem and proposes an Eye-through HMD that displays the eyes of the HMD wearer on the outer side of the HMD, i.e., on the side facing other people. The Eye-through HMD therefore prevents obstacles to interaction because eye movement of the HMD wearer can be observed by other people. This report describes the Eye-through HMD and presents a key application of this device called Puppet Eyes.
