Effect of cell transmission rate on performance of TCP over ATM networks

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we examine performance of TCP over ATM networks by using a simulation technique. We assume that many TCP streams share a bottleneck link of ATM network. By changing the cell transmission rate of every stream, we investigate its effect on throughput and fairness. Since there are some techniques for congestion avoidance algorithm in TCP, we focus on 4.3 Tahoe-BSD, 4.3 Reno-BSD and Vegas implementaiton whose source codes and algorithms are now available. We show some problems arising in TCPs over ATM networks and examine some modifications of TCP algorithm to improve their performance.
