A Study on Computer-ATM-Bus System for Multimedia Telecommunications

Abstract(in English) In the case of providing multimedia communication using personal computers, the data transfer mechanism inside a personal computer will become a throughput bottleneck. In this paper, we first study the existing approaches which are expected to overcome the bottleneck. Next we propose a new Computer-ATM-Bus system which aims to have a higher interoperability with ATM networks, to provide real time communication and to support concurrent transfer of multiple data streams. The main features of this proposed system are 1)use of separate buses, 2)use ATM format, 3)introduction of well-defined API for control. Moreover we show a transfer mechanism, simple multicast method and application service examples.
