A Reservation Protocol for the Transmission of Voice and Data in Optical Dual Bus Networks

Abstract(in English) Recently, network technology has made a great progrees and is moving towards to multi-media environment. Many multi-media applications have been developed and bring a potential need for multi-media network infrastructure. In the multi-media environment, the key point for integrated service networks is to provide a satisfactory quality of service (QoS) for various traffics, which have a different QoS request. In this study, we focus on the voice and data transmission in optical dual bus networks and propose a reservation based protocol. In this protocol, voice call admission and voice packet transmission is controlled on reservation base. All calls and voice packets receive a fair loss rate. On the other hand, data packets are handled in a random access manner. Based on the on-off model of call process, we estimated the call loss rate for given network parameters. The delay of data packets is also discussed for the case using DQDB (Distributed Queue Dual Bus) protocol as the data transmission protocol. At present, we limit our protocol to handle only voice and data. In the future, we will consider multiple traffics including video etc. and the dynamic bandwidth control issue.
