Realtime Voice Communications Over ATM

Abstract(in English) This paper describes main technologies for low bit rate voice communications over ATM and compares VTOA with IP packet voice communications. ATM has been recognized to be a key technology of multimedia communications, but until now ATM network was mainly used for data communications rather than multimedia communications included "voice". But recently low bit rate and silence removal voice communications using ATM are being interested in the world and a new AAL for low bit rate voices, AAL type 2, are discussed and standardized in ATM Forum and ITU-T. In this paper, AAL methods are discussed and their multiplexing effects are estimated by computer simulations.
