Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) High Performance Parallel Interface (HIPPI) is primarily for channel technique and it is a simplex point-to-point interface for transferring data at peak rates of 800 or 1600 Mbps over distances of up to 25 meters. In order to extend the widespread use of HIPPI from a channel solution to a networking solution, the physical limitation of HIPPI must be solved. The HIPPI-ATM mapping may be one of the solutions and allows communications over a relatively long distance by using HIPPI-ATM converters. So far, we have examined the performance of point-to-multipoint communication of HIPPI over ATM networks by means of both simulations and transmission experiments over our tested network. In this paper, to effectively establish multipoint-to-multipoint communication on HIPPI over ATM networks, we propose two flow control schemes, that is, Peak-rate Control scheme and Connection Control scheme, and formulate both throughput and packet transmission delay performance under these schemes.
