Abstract(in English) As digital television transmission becomes ubiquitous, a method for remote monitoring of transmitted picture quality is needed. For this purpose we previously proposed a method for remote PSNR estimation based on spread spectrum and extraction of orthogonal transform coefficients. This method, however, provided worse accuracy for local picture degradation peculiar to transmission errors than for coding noise degradation. To solve this issue, this paper proposes a method based on spreading space in addition to spreading spectrum. "Spread space" is realized by multiplication of a PN sequence on the transform domain, so as to effectively spread even local degradation.
