Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To measure the size and velocity of snow particles quantitatively, images of snow particles were input to an image processor. Since the shutter speed of video camera was slow, the photographed images of snow particles appeared as short streaks. To separate the snow particles from the background, the images were binarized by suitable threshold level. A boundary of the snow particle was recorded using a chain code. The velocity of snow particle was caluculated from its vertical length. The shape of the particle was composed from upper and lower boundaries of the image. The new calculation method of the shape of the particle was described by using chain code with sixteen directions.
