抄録(和)	わが国における最初のデータ伝送は,音声通信を目的として設置された電話網を通して開始された.電話網は元来音声伝送を目的としているため,これをデータ伝送に使用する際には,音声伝送では問題とならなかった種々の要因がデータ伝送品質劣化をもたらす.これらの要因について詳細に検討すると同時に,電話伝送基準により規定されている通信路を通してディジタルデータを伝送するためのモデムを設計し,データ伝送基準を作成した.これらの研究は筆者が若年の頃行ったもので,現在では常識となっている点も多いが,基本的考えガは今日においても参考となると判断し,記念講演として敢えて発表する次第である.
抄録(英)	The inauguration of data transmission in Japan has been carried out over the existing telephone network. As the telephone network has been set up based on the criteria for the speech communication, various difficulties arise when the network is used for the data transmission. The author investigated the causes of the difficulties in detail and proposed transmission standard of data transmission. Parallel with the investigation the author expanded research into modulation of digital data. At present, some of the research and development results became matter of common knowledge, but considering the approaches adopted in the research are potentially useful for the inauguration of new services, the author presents this paper in the commemorative lecture meeting.
