Abstract(in English)	The inauguration of data transmission in Japan has been carried out over the existing telephone network. As the telephone network has been set up based on the criteria for the speech communication, various difficulties arise when the network is used for the data transmission. The author investigated the causes of the difficulties in detail and proposed transmission standard of data transmission. Parallel with the investigation the author expanded research into modulation of digital data. At present, some of the research and development results became matter of common knowledge, but considering the approaches adopted in the research are potentially useful for the inauguration of new services, the author presents this paper in the commemorative lecture meeting.
