Effect Analysis of Rounding Operation in the Lossless / Lossy Wavelet

Abstract(in English) Recently, the research of the lossless wavelet transform which can realize lossless encoding of digital images is very much done. The lossless wavelet composed of "rounding operations" in the lifting structure is especially effective for the lossless coding. However, this structure suffers degradation of the decoded image quality due to the rounding operation when it is applied to lossy coding introducing the quantization. Therefore, this report proposes a new way of encoding introducing the quantization "before" analysis filters of the wavelet transform so that the error on the decoded image reduces because of cancellation of the rounding errors between encoder and decoder. This report also theoretically analyze variance of the error to endorse effectiveness of the proposal. As a result, it is confirmed that the proposed method can improve SNR by 2.3 [dB] in maximum. Accuracy of the theoretical analysis is also confirmed.
