| 抄録(和) | 屋内外の看板に書かれている文字情報を認識し、翻訳したり、通信を介して関連情報を取出すことができれば、大変便利である。本論文では、対象画像に対する制約が少なく、また、手動での操作を必要としない看板文字の自動抽出方法について述べる。まず、情景画像中の看板文字をキーとした情報活用システムの枠組みについて述べる。次に、看板を含んだ情景画像の特徴を考慮した、看板領域と文字領域の抽出方法を検討する。入力画像に対してRGB空間からL^*a^*b^*均等色空間への変換を行った後に、階層的なクラスタリングにより看板領域を抽出する。抽出した看板領域内を2値化し、水平、垂直方向への射影を利用することで文字領域を抽出する。屋内外で撮影した1000枚の情景画像を用いて看板領域の抽出及び文字抽出の実験を行い、本手法の有効性を明らかにする。 |
| 抄録(英) | Recognizing characters on signboards in a scene would be very useful for a translation, an acquisition of relevant information through Internet, and so on. In this paper we present a method for extracting characters on signboards in arbitrary scene images, which does not require any manual operation. We first describe briefly the framework of information handling system driven by characters on signboards in scene images. Next, a method for detecting signboard regions and each character region is investigated by considering a characteristic of signboards. The proposed method for extracting signboard regions is based on hierarchical clustering in L^*a^*b^* color space. Each character on signboards is extracted by using a binarization followed by horizontal and vertical projections. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through an experiment with 1000 various scene images. |
