Evaluation of rate control schemes applied for encoding 3D-HDTV.

Abstract(in English) For the encoding system applied for stereo moving sequences like 3D-HDTV, the difference of picture quality between left and right channel sould be very small independent of input picture characteristics, though the quality of decoded picture in each channel is required to be high. In this paper, for the purpose of keeping the difference of picture quality between channels quite small, some rate control schemes which includes assignment of target bitrate, calcuration of quantization parameters and so on are evaluated. In detail, the effect of applying rate control scheme based on the reference of coding result of both channels is evaluated compared with existing rate control schemes that take no reference between channels. In addition, the scheme to reduce the encoded bits of the right channel effectively is presented and evaluated, this is based on the best use of the disparity compensation which take reference pictures from the left channel.
