Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In a segmentation-based coding scheme, the objective of motion estimation and segmentation can be assumed minimizing the total generated bits, i.e., the sum of prediction error bits, shape bits, and motion vectors bits. To meet this objective, the authors propose a segmentation-based motion compensated predictive coding scheme, which simultaneously performs motion estimation and segmentation using dynamic programming. First, the proposed scheme estimates the generated bits for each pattern of segmentation for each motion vector beforhand. Second, based on this estimation, dynamic programming is applied so as to minimize the total generated bits, determining the region for each motion vector. Computer simulation experiments using general video sequences demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms conventional segmentation-based motion estimation schemes and the block matching scheme.
