Abstract(in English) In this paper, a discrete wavelet transform (DWT) coding method for images using the entropy coding method based on the Gaussian mixture distribution (GMD) model is proposed to improve coding performance. To fit the GMD model to the DWT coefficient vectors appropriately, the coefficient vector should be selected to have statistically uniform component signals. In the proposed method, the DWT coefficient vector is determined according to edge direction in each band signals of DWT coefficient. Simulation results for images show that the proposed method performs better than conventional DWT coding method.
