Abstract(in English) We aim to build an automatic face identification system which is robust against variation in head orientaion.In this paper,we present an automatic identification method using 3D information of human head.This method in based on pattern matching technique that uses face range data.First,the face range image from the standard viewpoint is extracted from cylindrical 3D head data by using a definition of the head orientation based on principal axis alignment.Then,three kinds of features extracted from the face range image are compared.Pattern matching paramenters(types of matching area region and features for classification)that gives the best classification result are also discussed.The proposed method has been successfully applied to the identification experiment using 67 face range data from 20 subjects.
