Abstract(in English) In order to obtain a high quality motion compensated interpolation(MCI),it is necessary not only to estimate motion but also to identify between a moving object and covered, uncovered region in an area of motion.This paper presents novel edge-based segmentation and hierarchical motion estimation algorithm. Segmentation is performed based on zero-crossings of the wavelet transform.Moving objects are extracted from the area of motion using the segmentation.Multiresolution image decomposition is performed with the biorthogonal wavelet transform,and motion is hierarchically estimated using the segmentation.Moving objects and covered/uncovered areas are identified with the segmentation result and the motion estimation.Finally,the application to motion compensated interpolation of the above is described.
