Development of Video Query System (VQS) for Efficient Access to Multimedia Database

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we describe PC based video query system for VOD (Video On Demand) and efficient video search system. By applying variety of query modes such as temporal, shot level, a key frame extraction, and video summary, a user can browse video contents or find desired scene according to user's own demand via LAN. All the query processes are performed on MPEG coded data domain rather than fully decoded domain. Therefore efficient and cost effective system has been realized. In this system, simple but flexible database structure is also used for effective database management. Some operational examples with graphical user interface in this system are also shown. The transmission experiment of this system over CATV network is discussed.
