Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose an image segmentation method which is used for a pre-processing of the object-based picture coding. The segmentation method by K-means algorithm, which is a widely used clustering method, sometimes segments an image into too many small regions and also splits the image at a position that does not correspond to the original boundary of an object in the image. To deal with these problems, we apply a three step region modifying scheme to the clustering result. We can obtain satisfactory results using this method.
