Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a new scheme of automatically producing layered sprites or common background images throughout a video shot, by detecting camera operation. In this paper, a video shot model constructed by an approximated real world plus camera motion is used, and the video shot can be represented as (1) background reflected by only camera motion and (2) residual information consisting of individual motions and noise. This scheme not only efficiently describes part (1), which is estimated as a large region through a video shot; it is also effective for indexing video, because approximating the real world is familiar in human recognition, while existing region-based technologies might not unify the regions into one camera motion and the representations could be redundant. We have simulation results for creating and synthesizing sprites and get a useful result from the viewpoint of video compression and indexing.
