Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to code a pre-known source, static coding will work well. However, to code a time-varying or spatially varying source, adaptive coding which has probability estimation function is necessary. Though it has been believed that the probability estimation function based on the historical cumulative counts of each symbol will achieve the best coding efficiency, other methods such as state-transition method have been also studied because of its simpleness. In this report, we will compare the performance of two probability estimation methods; symbol counting method and state-transition method, with making their parameters clear, independent of an entropy coder to be connected.
