Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The marching cubes (MC) algorithm has been widely used as a means to reconstruct surface data from volume data such as CT and MRI. However, we will show that the reconstructed surface of an object by the MC algorithm can be considerably distorted particularly when its size becomes closer to the resolution size. To solve or alleviate the problem we propose an iterative algorithm which we call volume(or value )preserving surface reconstruction(VPSR)algorithm. With this VPSR slgorithm we will show that the reconstructed shape represented by the surface data will be much closer to the original shape.
