Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal (HPDLC), which we have proposed as a reflective display device, has the potential to be an active holographic optical element (HOE), whose diffraction efficiency can be changed by an electric field. Since it is a volume hologram, it has high efficiency and does not make unnecessary diffraction, unlike a thin grating. Because the state of the device can be held even after the electric field has been removed, the diffraction is stable under active matrix driving. Among liquid crystal devices, this device operates at high speed (about 1ms). Therefore it is promising for real-time optical image processing of moving pictures.
