Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We study a still-image archiver, which uses the mutual correlation between frames, for archiving and preserving still images. The archiver uses the frame-sorting method in which similar frames are sorted and encoded as a motion picture. The redundancy of similar frames is reduced by this sorting method. We estimated the correlation coefficient between each frame before and after sorting, the values of the encoded bitstreams in JPEG and MPEG, and the number of macroblocks in MPEG. Our simulation confirmed that the value of the bitstream is decreased compared with those in conventional MPEG and JPEG. Moreover, the archiver reduces the redundancy of similar frames. These results show the feasibility of the still-image archiver.
