A study on integration of motion vectors in segmentation-based picture coding

Abstract(in English) In segmentation-based motion compensated predictive coding, it is necessary to perform motion estimation and segmentation so as to minimize the total entropy including shape information. The authors, therfore, present "Large-segment Vector Priority Method" as follows. First, the predictive error for each candidate motion vector is drived at each small block. Then, in the areas which have enough small predictive error, the largest segment is assigned for its corresponding motion vector as its shape information can be considered relatibely small. The assigned segment is removed after that. By repeating this procedure, the two processes of motion estimation and segmentation are performed at the same time. The presented method is studied being compared with block matching method through computer experiments using test sequences.
