| Abstract(in English) | This paper proposes a Satellite Multimedia TV System(SMTV) that enables TV viewers to browse the Internet and enjoy the data broadcasting services on their TV sets. The system configuration and the network architecture are presented in this presentation. SMTV provides the multifunctional and versatile satellite multimedia service on TV for Internet, data/video/audio multicasting based on IP/MPEG-2 transport streams. Main target users of SMTV service are Internet broadcasting viewers. SMTV can be applied to live video distribution by Internet broadcasters, software distribution for education, business and game, Web casting and T-commerce. SMTV is developed with constructing an additional platform to KMS (Koreasat Multimedia System) which is the satellite Internet system developed and released in Korea. The platform of SMTV consists of a collector of the relevant data from the content providers, a scheduling server, and a stream server. Set-top box(STB) is to be designed to be fully DVB compliant. The STB povides functions for Internet applications, video players for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 streams of live broadcasting, and digital recording. |
