Development of Compact Anechoic Chambers : Design, Prototyping,and Performance

Abstract(in English) In order to decide the smallest size of compact anechoic chamber used for measuring reactive near field of ESPAR antenna, relationship between return losses of an antenna with distance from the antenna to an absorber is evaluated by using Signal Flow Graph and Radar Equation in which a ray difference is considered. The relationship is also investigated by experiment using several different absorbers as reflect objects. A conclusion is obtained that thick pyramid absorber can be used in a very near distance from the antenna and a relative small compact anechoic chamber could be build by using this kind of absorbeL As a result, we design and built a compact anechoic chamber according to the theoretical results. The compact anechoic chamber is verified by comparing the results measured in the compact anechoic chamber with those obtained by using a large chamber. About -40dB reflection coefficient can be obtained at approximately 100MHz bandwidth.
