Fundamental Network Performance of Mobile Multimedia Satallite Communication System with Tracking Antenna

Abstract(in English) We have proposed the mobile multimedia satellite communication system that is designed to realize high speed multimedia communications. This system uses the mobile network for return link and the newly developed tracking antenna that receives the high speed satellite signals for forward link. This paper describes the network performance evaluation results of the proposed system assembled in a bus by using the PDC, the PDC-Packet, satellite phone for return link respectively. TCP throughput was predicted from round trip time measurement results and was evaluated by comparing with measurement results in the stationary bus. The TCP throughput test was carried out in the running bus and it was confirmed that the proposed system realize the high speed communication performance that cannot be achieved by current mobile communication systems.
