Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Due to recent development of various multimedia services and the wide use of internet it is required to transmit the great amount of video and audio data effectively and fast.To meet these requirements for high-speed internet access, several technologies such as xDSL, Cable Modem, and Satellite-based services have been considered and are being developed with mutual supplement.xDSL and Cable Modem being utilized for the internet service have kinds of restrictions for high-speed data transfer, therefore, satellite-based service, which is one of the alternative technologies, has become more and more important.Typically, satellite is used for down-link in which large data transfer rate is required, and dial-up modem is used for up-link transfer. However, satellite-based service is in transition to a next generation technology which utilizes satellite for both up and down link data transfer. There should be equipment like antenna, transceiver, satellite modem, and etc to make use satellite internet service. This article describes the technologies for encoding/decoding and error corrections in satellite modems, and the brief estimation for the market.
